J&K administration sets-up high-level standing committee for allocation of funds, mobilization of resources for maintenance of roads | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 15 (KNO): In a significant development, the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has constituted a UT level standing committee to decide about annual allocation of funds for maintenance of different categories of roads. As part of implementation of “The Jammu and Kashmir Road Maintenance Policy-2021, the government, according to an order in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), has constituted a standing committee headed by Chief Secretary to decide about annual allocation of funds for maintenance of different categories of roads. Headed by CS, the standing committee comprises of administrative secretary, Finance department, administrative secretary, Public Works department, development commissioner (Works), chief engineer PW(R&B) department, chief engineer PW(R&B) department, Kashmir, chief engineer PMGSY, Jammu and chief engineer PMGSY, Kashmir. As per its terms of reference, the committee will decide about annual allocation of funds for maintenance of different categories of road networks. The committee will also explore avenues for mobilizing additional funds for reducing the gap between the funds required and those made available for maintenance of the roads. The road maintenance policy was cleared by the Administrative Council (AC), headed by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, in October this year. The policy aims at scientifically maintaining the J&K’s road length of 41,600 km, which is expected to reach 46,000 km length by 2022. It provides a guiding framework for establishing objectives, making arrangements and establishing a set of procedures for undertaking maintenance and repair works by PWD—(KNO)
